Japan
A beautiful DS19 shot in April 1966 in
Omotesando, a higher end area of Tokyo. The
type of number plate indicates it was an
ambassador's own car, maybe the French one,
but maybe not, as several other countries'
embassies used the DS at that time.
From the book "European cars you
could see in the city streets of the
1960's", by Sadahiko Asai and Shizuo
Takashima, Miki Press ed., 2003.
The DS in the streets of 1960's Tokyo, from 3 recent Japanese books featuring the photo
collections of amateurs who have spent their lifes snapping pictures of cars...
From the book "The world of foreign
cars in Tokyo, 1950's and 1960's", by
Norio Takagi, Nigensha ed., 2003.
From the book "When the cars entered
main stage", by Keisou Tomioka,
Nippon Camera ed., 2003.
Finally, from the same book as above, a picture
taken in Ginza, one of the busiest areas in Tokyo,
in Jan 1959. The Japanese car industry was not
reigning over the world yet, the first Tokyo Motor
Show had taken place only in 1954, and there
were comparatively more foreign cars than now,
starting with the taxis which were Renault models
assembled by Hino...

Another picture of a DS19, US export version
(see the domed front indicators), taken in May,
1971, in a parking lot. The number plate
indicates Tama, the western area of Tokyo.
An ID19 "Luxe" according to the author, parked
in front of a bank in the Ginza area,
photographed in June 1968.
