The former car of a French ambassador in
Colombo, 40,000 km only, this is one of the
only two DS23 Pallas in Sri Lanka. Both
belong to Ray.
Ray Welaratna, a classic car collector, is a
true Citroen fan: he also recently found and
purchased locally a Citroen "Clover", and
started restoring it !
A 1975 hydraulic gearbox model, this DS,
still in its original silver body, was first used
by His Excellency Pierre Anthonis, only to be
later auctioned in 1979 by the government to
a certain Abdul Latiff, after its diplomatic
duty-free registration expired in 1978. Ray
was already there, at the auction, as well as
other car enthusiast and French speaker
Emil, who eventually managed a while later
to buy it back. Then at last, 22 years after
seeing the car at the auction, in 2001, Ray
became its 5th owner.
The car is mechanically sound, basically
100% original, and is now undergoing body
and paint restoration. We look forward to
hear and see more about it in the near future !
Cherry on the cake, Ray owns another DS23,
a 1974, manual box model, and knows of a
1968 DS21 Pallas in the country. Keep in
